UPDATE: The Hearld Tribune is reporting June 9, 2025 that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has approved Sarasota County’s plan to spend $210 million in federal funds to recover from the trio of hurricanes that swept through the area in 2024.  These 4 projects are included.

CCNA’s Flooding / Stormwater Committee has posted 4 projects included in the City and County’s Resilient SRQ Funds – Round 2 Proposal.

The Sarasota Stormwater Resiliency & Flood Mitigation Initiative is a multi-site infrastructure improvement project designed to enhance flood protection, improve stormwater conveyance, and reduce pollution entering Sarasota Bay and Phillippi Creek. These locations experience chronic street flooding, sediment buildup, and water quality degradation, threatening critical roadways, neighborhoods, and the coastal environment.

The Hudson Bayou Resiliency & Stormwater Mitigation Project is a critical flood mitigation and water quality improvement initiative that will enhance the stormwater conveyance capacity of the Hudson Bayou
through dredging, bank stabilization, and improved stormwater outfalls.

The Whitaker Bayou Resiliency & Stormwater Mitigation Project is a comprehensive flood mitigation and water quality improvement initiative that will enhance the stormwater conveyance capacity of Whitaker Bayou through dredging, stormwater infrastructure upgrades, and water quality enhancements.

The St. Armands Resiliency & Flood Mitigation Project is a comprehensive effort to reduce storm-related flooding, strengthen stormwater infrastructure, and enhance coastal resilience for one of Sarasota’s most critical commercial and residential areas.
