The Board of Directors of the Coalition of City Neighborhood Associations voted unanimously to add a new Strategic Initiative to the list of initiatives generated by our 2023 Summit. The new initiative is to prioritize efforts to rezone or otherwise protect spaces in the City of Sarasota that are neighborhood and/or community parks currently zoned G (Government Zone) to either POS (Parks and Open Space), MP (Marine Parks), or other appropriate designation. This decision was made in recognition of, and in furtherance of, the position paper unanimously adopted by our membership on the Commercialization and Privatization of City of Sarasota Parks dated 4/6/24.
CCNA Goal– to provide broader protections applicable to all city parks. As the city grows, our parks are essential for quality of life, sustainability and environmental issues.
Committee Formed
CCNA established a committee at the Jan 4, 2025, member meeting to address these concerns. The committee met on Jan 29th with Lucia Panica & Steve Cover with the city for an initial meeting to discuss our objective. Next meeting TBD.
