Engineering and Capital Improvement Plan

The Engineering/Capital Projects Division of the City of Sarasota Department of Public Works plans, develops and implements projects and is responsible for all activities which occur within the City’s rights-of-way. We keep pace with the twenty-first century by designing, reviewing, and constructing City infrastructure that will continue to foster the City’s successful development, while allowing it to remain a great place to live, work and play.

For Those Wanting More Background Information:

The Manual of Uniform Minimum Standards for Design, Construction and Maintenance for Streets and Highways (Florida Greenbook) provides criteria for public streets, roads, highways, bridges, sidewalks, curbs and curb ramps, crosswalks, bicycle facilities, underpasses, and overpasses used by the public for vehicular and pedestrian travel.   Sarasota’s City Engineer, Nik Patel is a committee member actively working on the 2022 Edition of this guide, which will replace the current 2018 edition.
