An improvement project to replace the existing force main along S. Osprey Avenue will begin Tuesday, June 3, requiring partial road closures throughout the project’s estimated 5-month duration.

The project aims to enhance the resilience of the City of Sarasota’s sanitary sewer infrastructure by extending and replacing sections of the 8-inch force main along S. Osprey Avenue which are nearing the end of their useful lifespan.

This project is included in the City’s $300 million long-term utilities improvement master plan, approved by the City Commission in July 2019, with the purpose of replacing aging utilities to improve resiliency and redundancy.

The first of this project’s 3 phases will begin June 3. To accommodate the project’s first phase, the following road closures and traffic modifications will be in place through July 8:

S. Osprey Avenue will be closed to traffic between Floyd Street and Waldemere Street, and from Clematis Street to Wisteria Street.
S. Osprey Avenue will be restricted to one-way traffic from Lincoln Drive to Floyd Street.
Left turns toward S. Osprey Avenue will be prohibited at the intersections of Alta Vista Street, Irving Street, Loma Linda Street, and Prospect Street.
The project’s construction schedule was coordinated to coincide with Sarasota County Schools’ summer vacation to lessen traffic impacts on S. Osprey Avenue and is estimated to be completed in Fall 2025.
